November at Siema Organics
We are enjoying spring here. We have been picking the last of our winter citrus amongst the blossoms and setting fruit of the neighbouring stone fruits trees. Everything is humming.
Beneath some of our apricot and guava trees our companion planting of rhubarb, comfrey, mint, calendula and nasturtium are lush and flowering. We are watching them provide habitat for the bees and butterflies, and an occasional snack for our pet lamb, Lily.
Another long, dry summer is ominously looming. We are mulching and watering our newly planted native seedlings and checking the weather forecasts in hope for rain. Last summer's drought particularly affected our citrus - the tangelo trees leaves have yellowed and the fruit is smaller overall. We gratefully welcome any rainfall.
The chickens and ducks are thriving, and we're overwhelmed with eggs. Come by and get some.
Arohanui,
Lou
